Food Waste Action Week 2025
We’re proud to announce that on 17 March we’ll be joining in with Food Waste Action Week.
Do you ever buy big packs of fruit and veg and then end up throwing some of the pack away? If you do, then you’re not alone. Every year in the UK we throw away 1.7 million tonnes of fruit and veg. In fact, 46% of potatoes we buy are wasted.
Research from our friends at Love Food Hate Waste has shown that if all apples, bananas, and potatoes were sold loose, 8.2 million shopping baskets worth of food waste could be prevented every year. . And that’s simply because when fruit and veg is sold loose, you can buy the amount that you need and can use.
Buying your fruit and veg loose also means that you can choose the quality that you prefer too – a slightly greener banana, one rosy, red apple, or the perfect potatoes for jackets!
To help you reduce your food waste, we are giving away handy tools such as:
- Max La Manna's low waste cookbook, 'You Can Cook This'
- 3 reusable food wraps
- 6 reusable silicone lids
- A Love Essex travel mug and sandwich box

Competition notice
Competition name: Love Essex Food Waste Action Week prize draw.

Eligibility: This competition is open to residents of Essex County aged 16 and over.
Winner selection: The winner will be selected at random by the Love Essex team. The winner will be contacted on Facebook and Instagram by the Love Essex team by Wednesday 26 March 2025.
Terms and conditions: By entering this competition, participants agree to the terms and conditions. The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. We reserve the right to modify or cancel the competition at any time.
