Community guidelines
We want your visit to recycling centres to be a positive experience. We've put together some simple guidelines to keep our centres safe and welcoming.
Our commitment
Clean safe facilities
We ensure our recycling centres are clean, tidy, and safe for all users.
Reuse services
When possible, we offer reuse services to help reduce waste.
Respectful staff
Our staff are trained to treat all visitors with courtesy and respect. They will guide you on how to use the recycling centre effectively, help you identify the right containers for your items, and explain rules when needed.
They may also check for proof of residency to ensure the waste is from your own household.
Assistance
Staff are available to help those who need assistance, including Blue Badge holders.
Temporary closures
Recycling centres are subject to temporary closures for maintenance or unexpected safety issues. We will give you advance warning of these where possible and make bookings unavailable for the closure period.
A safe and respectful environment
We aim to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone. We have a zero tolerance approach to bullying, harassment and discrimination. We will investigate all incidents of abuse reported by our staff and appropriate action will be taken.
Your responsibilities
Respect staff
Our staff are people too – treat them with respect. Aggressive behaviour or threatening language will not be tolerated.
No smoking
Smoking is prohibited at recycling centres.
Arrival
Ensure your vehicle is safely parked with the engine off before displaying your booking confirmation. Please keep your engine off when queuing as this will help to keep air pollution levels down for other users and staff.
Follow staff instructions
Respect and follow guidance from staff, especially regarding health and safety, fire alarms, or other emergency warnings.
Safety
Be aware of other users and moving vehicles. Use marked walkways and pedestrian crossings. Always keep children and pets inside your vehicle.
Appropriate clothing
For your safety you should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Long trousers and closed shoes are recommended. Remember to wear gloves when handling sharp or heavy items.
Disposal
Items should be placed (not thrown) into containers. If you’re not sure which container to use, ask staff for advice.
Lost items
Do not lean over or into containers to retrieve lost items, once they are in a container they cannot be removed. Ask staff for assistance.
Hazardous waste
Report any hazardous waste, such as chemicals, batteries, or paint, to staff. If you spill anything, such as paint or oil, inform staff immediately.
